Life Amplified

Mayor's Message

Posted: July 8, 2022

Mayor Michael GlotzSadly, this past Independence Day was marred by tragedy. While most of the country was celebrating with food, friends, and fun, residents of Highland Park were running for their lives as a maniac with a rifle fired on them from the rooftops during their annual Fourth of July parade. Seven people died, and many more were injured.

It’s nothing short of heartbreaking. No one should ever endure such a tragic, senseless act of violence. The Tinley Park community grieves with the people of Highland Park during this time of profound loss, and I ask each of you to take a few moments to remember the victims of this horrendous atrocity.

We are fortunate to have a fantastic Public Safety team here in Tinley Park, one that communicates regularly with Federal, State, county and other city public safety agencies. Together they work each and every day diligently to keep our community safe.

Our Police can’t be everywhere, though. We can all do our part to keep our community safe. How? By staying vigilant and keeping your eyes and ears open. If you see something that doesn’t look right, say something – a suspicious person or a strange car, for instance – don’t hesitate to call 911. Together we can protect our community and look out for each other.

Our Public Safety team will be out in full force during the Block Party on July 16th and 17th in Downtown Tinley. If you’re planning on attending, you can help by leaving the wagons, backpacks, or large coolers at home. You can also aid Police by keeping an eye out for any suspicious behavior and immediately report it to your nearest officer. Rest assured that when our officers become aware of something, they act immediately to protect the public.

Events are critical to our community. They not only give us places to relax and have fun but also give us chances to connect with each other. After all, a united community is a safer community, and I think that’s something we can all get behind.

United we stand, divided we fall.
