Census suspended until June 1
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Census Bureau has announced an extended suspension of the 2020 Census field operations until June 1. The Bureau also asked Congress to provide a 120-calendar day extension to the deadline to deliver final counts to the White House and Congress. This deadline extension request will help ensure that Illinois and all other states are accurately counted.
The data collected from the Census helps determine the number of seats Illinois has in the U.S. House of Representatives and the amount of federal funds received for such things as schools, senior centers and public works projects. It also is the basis for many state revenue payments, such as income tax and motor fuel fax.
The Village will update residents on the status of the Census as more information becomes available.
