Membership Information

To be considered for membership in the Tinley Park Emergency Management Agency (EMA), individuals are required to meet certain requirements and standards, which are listed below. All members shall continue to meet or exceed these during their association with the organization.




Basic Requirements:

  • Abide by all Tinley Park EMA Rules & Regulations, SOG's, and any direct orders
  • Attend regular meetings, training and maintenance nights, as required
  • Be willing to participate in EMA activities as required
  • Operate as part of a team and independently
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum age - 18 years old
  • Have a current Illinois drivers license and a good past driving record
  • Be a responsible citizen with no previous police record
  • Have a neat appearance
  • Residency within the Village of Tinley Park is preferred for part-time positions
Additional Requirements:

  • Able to sit, talk and hear while performing assigned duties
  • Required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Vision abilities - close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Able to lift and/or move as much as 50 pounds
  • Rely on senses of sight, hearing, smell and touch to maintain personal safety, make decisions throughout an incident
  • Learns, retains and utilizes geographic knowledge of the Village and surroundings
  • Able to work outside in adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time
  • Operate in environments of high noise, poor visibility, limited mobility, or heights
  • Tolerate temperature fluctuations while performing duties
  • Perform complex tasks during life-threatening emergencies or stressful incidents
  • Operate hand & power tools, in both emergency and non-emergency situations
  • Faces possible exposure to infectious disease
  • Understands, maintains, and utilizes personal protective equipment as required
Note: Proposed members should attend two regular meetings prior to swearing in.
