The Village of Tinley Park is extending 191st Street from Prosperi Drive to Oak Park Avenue, completing the road’s connection from Harlem Avenue to Oak Park Avenue. D Construction of Coal City, Ill. is performing the work, which began in August with earth removal. Work is expected to be completed by July 2018.
As part of the project, 191st Street eastbound from Harlem Avenue will be closed for 30 days for intersection improvements. This is tentatively planned to occur in October so that construction doesn’t conflict with the concert schedule at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater. More information will be available as this portion of the project approaches.
Once complete, 191st Street will have two lanes of through traffic and protected left-turn lanes from Harlem Avenue to just east of Oak Park Avenue. The intersection of Harlem Avenue and 191st Street will be improved with dual left-hand turns at all legs of the intersection, and an exclusive right-turn lane will be added to the south leg. A signal will also be added at the intersection of 191st Street and Oak Park Avenue, with an exclusive right turn lane on the east leg.
There are no detour routes associated with this improvement, and all public roads will remain open during construction.
The Illinois Department of Transportation bid the project on April 28, 2017, with D Construction as the lowest bidder at about $3.3 million. The Village secured federal and state funding to pay for the majority of the improvement and is responsible for approximately 17% of the total project cost.
Project Update (Nov. 1, 2017)
The 191st Street project is 20% complete. The 191st Street roadway (South Road to Hollywood Casino Amphitheater) has been closed east of Oak Park Avenue since Oct. 24; work will be completed by Nov. 24 and the road reopened. Detour routes have been posted for the businesses affected by the road closure.
