The annual Downtown Tinley Irish Parade will step off at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19 along Oak Park Avenue. The family-friendly event features floats, community groups, local schools and businesses.
Downtown Tinley Irish Parade
The March 19 date was selected due to St. Patrick’s Day occurring on a Friday in 2017, allowing the parade to take place on the same weekend. Weather also tends to be more event-friendly later in March, as seen with past events, thus eliminating the potential task of removing snow on walkways, sidewalks and streets.
Before the Village’s MainStreet Commission finalized the date, a survey was given to the community requesting input on this year’s parade date. The survey was posted on all social media sites, included in the Village’s Community Email newsletter, Facebook page and Twitter feed and the Downtown Tinley Facebook page, Twitter feed and Experience Downtown Tinley newsletter. The survey was viewed by more than 5,000 people and taken by 341 individuals, with more than 75% of respondents selecting the March 19 date. Results of the survey can be viewed by clicking here.
The Village issued an initial survey that had to be removed due to technical issues. Click here to see the results of that survey.
